RENACCI RE-ELECTED IN OHIO’S 16TH DISTRICT

Tonight, Jim Renacci delivered the following statement after winning re-election in Ohio’s 16th district:

“I am deeply humbled by the opportunity that voters in the 16th district have given me to serve again as their voice in Washington.  Throughout this race, and again tonight, my thoughts have remained with the millions of Americans who are out of work and who continue to struggle through deeply difficult times.   As I have always said, this race was about them, not about partisan politics, and I look forward to getting back to work on behalf of the district and doing the heavy lifting that is needed to repair our broken economy.  I sincerely congratulate Congresswoman Sutton on her service to the people of Ohio and on running a very strong campaign.”

COOK POLITICAL REPORT SHIFTS OH-16 RACE RATING FROM “TOSS UP” TO “LEAN REPUBLICAN”

Good Morning,

In case you missed last night’s news, Charlie Cook, one of America’s leading political analysts and election forecasters, shifted the race rating in Ohio’s 16th congressional district from “Toss Up” to “Lean Republican”.  The ratings shift in favor of Jim Renacci was predicated on recent polling from both Republicans and Democrats showing Renacci consistently leading Betty Sutton as we approach Election Day.  A survey released just last week showed Renacci had widened his lead to 10 points, leading Sutton 51%-41% among likely voters and those who had already voted in the 16th district.

“The only poll results that matter are the results we will see next Tuesday, but I remain deeply grateful for the strong support and continued momentum voters in the 16th district have given to our campaign.  At a time when America is drowning in debt and our economy has been robbed of the recovery that was promised under the failed policies of the past four years, I would be honored to earn the chance to continue fighting for the pro-growth agenda American families, workers and businesses need to get our country and our economy moving again,” Jim Renacci said today.

RENACCI STATEMENT ON OCTOBER JOBS NUMBERS

Good Morning—

Earlier today Jim Renacci released the following statement on the October jobs report, which showed the unemployment rate has risen to 7.9%.

“This morning’s report from the Labor Department was a crushing reminder that President Obama’s economic agenda has failed—not that the 23 million Americans struggling to find work needed another reminder. The unemployment rate today is higher than it was when President Obama took office, and if you factor in all those who have dropped out of the labor force since 2009, it’s much higher.  Not a single net new job has been created in America during the past four years, while millions of families have fallen into poverty.  The tax, spend and borrow policies pursued by President Obama and Betty Sutton have not brought us a recovery, they’ve brought us massive new debt and the worst jobs crisis since the Great Depression.

“Middle class families have been crushed under the Obama-Sutton trickle down government experiment and the status quo of endless, crippling unemployment is simply unacceptable. If we want a real economic recovery, we must elect individuals who understand how our economy works and that it’s the private sector, and not government, that will lead the way to job growth and recovery. I believe Governor Romney and I have both shown we have the background and experience to get America and Ohio moving in the right direction again.”

OH-16 POLL: RENACCI PULLING AWAY, NOW LEADS SUTTON 51%-41%

OH-16 POLL:  RENACCI PULLING AWAY, NOW LEADS SUTTON 51%-41%

Good Morning—

Today, pollster Wes Anderson with OnMessage Inc. released the latest poll results from the race in Ohio’s 16th congressional district     between Jim Renacci and Betty Sutton.  As the polling memo below indicates, Renacci now leads Sutton by a 10-point margin, 51%-41% among likely voters and those who have already voted.  While Renacci has led Sutton in all recent polling, he has now widened his lead.

“While the only poll results that truly matter are the results on November 6th, this survey illustrates the growing momentum and support for Jim Renacci’s campaign that we have seen building on the ground for months.  Voters are not only rejecting Betty Sutton’s failed, big government economic policies, they have also rejected the substance-free gutter politics that have consumed her campaign.  Jim Renacci is proud to have run a positive, issues-based campaign focused on his plan to get Ohioans back to work—and as a result, voters are now poised to send him back to work as their voice in Washington,” Renacci spokesman James Slepian said.

In recent days, the media has also highlighted the Renacci campaign’s innovative strategy to navigate the over-saturated Cleveland media market that has been bombarded with political advertising since the spring.  Rather than waiting until the final weeks of the campaign to attempt communicating broadly with voters on heavily cluttered broadcast networks in Cleveland, Renacci began airing broadcast and cable ads as early as August, while opting to run a more targeted campaign in the final two weeks centered on more direct voter contacts.  Today’s poll results lend further merit to that strategy and the Renacci campaign will continue with both cable and highly targeted broadcast advertising between now and Election Day.

Below you will find the polling memo released this morning from Wes Anderson with OnMessage Inc.

From:              Wes Anderson, OnMessage Inc.

Date:               October 25, 2012

Re:                  Key Findings in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District

The following survey was conducted by OnMessage Inc. in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District.  Telephone interviews were conducted October 25, 2012.  This survey consists of 400 likely general election voters and was stratified by county to reflect historic voter trends. The margin of error for this survey is +/- 4.9%.

Bottom-line: Heading into the home stretch, this race is trending significantly toward Renacci.  The ballot now stands at 51% for Jim Renacci to 41% for Betty Sutton.  Only 7% of the electorate is still undecided.

Key Findings

·       The Presidential ballot is 50% Romney and 43% Obama with only 6% undecided.  At this late point in the race, the 16th will most likely go for Governor Romney on Election Day by four or five points.  We’ve seen a steady trend line of improvement for Romney in this district since the first presidential debate in early October.

·       That brings us to the ballot which is 51% Renacci to 41% Sutton with 7% undecided and 1% other.  Keep in mind that our methodology is designed to capture those voters who have already cast a ballot as well as those likely voters who have yet to vote.

o      When we look at the ballot by partisanship we find an intensity gap favoring Renacci.  Renacci is currently receiving the support of 91% of Republicans while Sutton is garnering just 78% of Democrats.

o      Independents currently break for Renacci 48% to 26% with 26% undecided.

o      By vote behavior (how do you usually vote) Renacci’s advantage with voters in the middle is even greater.  Among Ticketsplitters (those who say they vote for both a mix of Democrats and Republicans) the ballot stands at 51% Renacci to just 35% Sutton.

At the strategic level Renacci’s message is clearly resonating with the voters of the 16th district.  At a tactical level Renacci’s strategy of pursing a comprehensive voter contact plan across all platforms, from broadcast television to new media outlets, is paying off big.  We feel very confident that Jim Renacci will be re-elected Congressman from the 16th District.

Wes Anderson is a leading GOP pollster with 20 years of experience in opinion research.  As a founding partner Wes now leads the polling divisions of OnMessage Inc. and OnMessage Sports, providing political and corporate clients with a full spectrum of quantitative and qualitative opinion research products.  In 2010 and 2012 Wes served as the lead pollster for the NRCC's Independent Expenditure efforts.  You can read more about Wes Anderson at onmessageinc.com.

RENACCI STATEMENT ON SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Good Morning—

Today, Jim Renacci released the following statement on last night’s presidential debate:

“If President Obama’s goal was to provide the American people with a solid vision for the future and assurances that his second term would be different than his first, last night’s debate was another complete failure.  Americans heard nothing but the same tired excuses for why the economy is still not growing at a healthy rate, why millions remain out of work, why a record 50 million now live in poverty and why our national debt has grown by $5 trillion in the last four years alone.

“Certainly, the President was more animated than in his first debate appearance, which was clearly one of the worst performances by any candidate that we’ve seen in modern history.  But while he managed to meet the shockingly low expectations he set for himself on stage, his performance as a president falls far below the expectations set by the American people.  He promised to cut the deficit in half, instead it has skyrocketed.  He promised to bring unemployment below 6 percent, instead 23 million Americans are jobless or underemployed.  He promised to cut health care costs by $2,500, instead they’ve increased by $2,500.  At nearly every turn, he has failed us.

“Once again, Mitt Romney provided a clear vision for America’s future and a plan to restore strength and stability to an economy that has suffered badly under the failed policies of President Obama and his allies in Congress.  Governor Romney laid out the clear choice our country faces on November 6th and offered Americans the path back to prosperity we so desperately need.”

RENACCI STATEMENT ON VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Good Evening—

Tonight, Jim Renacci released the following statement on the Vice Presidential debate:

“During tonight’s debate, Ohio voters witnessed the stark differences between the candidates’ visions for America’s future. Joe Biden was unable to defend the failed policies of the Obama Administration and outlined no new plan for a second term besides more taxes, more regulation and more government spending. But after four years of chronically high unemployment, increased health care costs, and trillions in debt, America simply cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s failed policies. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will do what Barack Obama and Joe Biden have failed to do: create jobs, increase take-home pay, and deliver a real economic recovery that strengthens Ohio middle class families.”

RENACCI FIGHTS FOR JOBS, SUTTON FIGHTS HER OWN RECORD AT 16TH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL DEBATE

Good Afternoon—

Earlier today, Jim Renacci scored an overwhelming victory at the 16th district congressional debate, held at the Cleveland City Club.   Hamstrung by her rubber stamp support for the failed fiscal policies that have left over 20 million Americans out of work or underemployed, and a record 50 million in poverty, Congresswoman Sutton struggled badly to answer for her dismal economic record in Congress.  In contrast, Jim Renacci offered the audience a clear alternative to the job crushing, big-government policies of the past four years that have paralyzed the economy and devastated working families across America.

“This race isn’t about the two of us, it’s about the 23 million Americans who are out of work or underemployed.  It’s about the 47 million on food stamps and the record 50 million now living in poverty,” Renacci said while painting a picture of Betty’s Sutton’s record in congress.

As he has throughout the race, Renacci demanded the federal government cease the endless conveyor belt of tax hike threats, reckless spending and job crushing regulations that have been the foundation of the Obama-Sutton economic agenda.  When asked what she would do to spur job creation, Sutton struggled, offering nothing more than the same hollow talking points and failed policies that brought America the worst jobs crisis since the Great Depresssion.

RENACCI HONORED TO HAVE RECEIVED HIGH MARKS FROM CITIZEN VOTER GROUP

RENACCI HONORED TO HAVE RECEIVED HIGH MARKS FROM CITIZEN VOTER GROUP

Good Morning—

Over the past several months, Jefferson Action, a national non-partisan organization dedicated to boosting voter participation and issue awareness in elections, targeted the congressional race in Ohio’s 16th district as the focus of the nation’s only 2012 Reclaim November project.  The unique process drew widespread media attention this year as it sought to foster an honest evaluation of the candidates by well-informed voters, outside the filter of the endless political advertising that has saturated Ohio’s airwaves for months.

Beginning in July, the organization convened three separate, randomly selected voter groups from across the district to identify the top issues facing the community, and to ultimately evaluate each candidate’s platform and performance on those issues.

The citizen voter groups, comprised of seven Republicans, seven Democrats and ten independents, cited weak economic growth, high unemployment and the growing national debt as the top three issues facing the region.  Throughout the process, experts from seven different universities worked with Jefferson Action and the voter groups to provided in-depth, non-partisan information on each of these issues before they evaluated the candidates.

As was reported earlier this morning, the participating voters gave high marks to Congressman Jim Renacci for his platform on ending weak economic growth, fostering job creation and tackling the national debt.

“At a time when families across our district continue to struggle in a weak economy and under the weight of our country’s skyrocketing debt, I was honored to participate in this outstanding process, which helped facilitate a much needed, spin-free dialogue between voters and their representatives on how we can tackle these challenges.   While I was pleased to have received positive feedback from the voters on many of my policy positions, what’s most important is that the conversation between voters and their elected officials continues—both in this district and in every district across the country.  The problems we face as a nation are not Republican problems or Democrat problems, they are American problems that require Americans to come together to find solutions that will serve us all,” Jim Renacci said today.

RENACCI STATEMENT ON SEPTEMBER UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT

Good Morning—

Today, Jim Renacci released the following statement on September’s unemployment report:

“This morning’s news from the Labor Department that hiring has slowed and our economy added fewer jobs in September than in August is certainly nothing to brag about, and I sincerely hope President Obama and Congresswoman Betty Sutton will view it for what it is, a continuation of the worst economic recovery in modern American history.  While any job creation at all is certainly good news, the 114 thousand jobs created in September barely puts a dent in the more than 20 million Americans who still cannot find a full-time job, the 47 million who are now on food stamps and the record 50 million people now living below the poverty line. The fact remains that if the ‘official’ unemployment rate took into account the millions who have given up even looking for work since President Obama took office, the rate would be well above 11 percent.

“Growth was 1.9 percent in the first quarter of this year and 1.3 percent in the second quarter. We risk backsliding to recessionary levels, although most Ohioans would agree it feels like we have never actually recovered from the last one. Numbers like these illustrate the magnitude of the dire economic situation we face. Simply put, Ohioans cannot afford four more years like the last four. The hollow promises of Barack Obama and Betty Sutton have not left us better off. We must get off this road to economic stagnation and back on the path to prosperity. Fortunately, next month Ohio voters will have the opportunity to change course for the better.”

RENACCI REACTS TO FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENACCI REACTS TO FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Good evening—

Tonight, Jim Renacci offered the following statement reacting to the first Presidential debate of the 2012 campaign:

“Tonight, while President Obama desperately tried to apply lipstick to the last four years of failure and fatigue that have defined his presidency, his hollow words offered little comfort to the 23 million Americans who can’t find a full-time job or the record 50 million who now live in poverty. In contrast, Mitt Romney put forth a clear plan for economic recovery that puts our nation’s future back in the hands of American families and businesses, rather than under the thumb of Washington politicians and government bureaucrats.

Gov. Romney’s vision for our country involves less government, lower taxes on the middle class and fewer overly burdensome regulations on businesses. That is the formula for job creation. Predictably, President Obama sought to hide his platform of higher taxes on working families, endless red tape and an all-powerful Washington bureaucracy behind the same tired talking points and empty promises we’ve heard repeatedly throughout his presidency. Those are the same failed policies that have devastated millions of American families and kept our country paralyzed in the worst jobs crisis since the Great Depression.

Simply put, Gov. Romney showed once again that he has the right policies to foster job creation and get our economy headed in the right direction. At the same time, President Obama failed to make the case that he deserves a second term in office. In fact, the President’s answers made it sound an awful lot like he’s still living in 2008 and wishing, like most of us do, that the last four years never happened.  I never heard him take responsibility for racking up $5 trillion in debt in just four years or for overseeing 43 straight months of an unemployment rate over eight percent. It would seem Barack Obama’s slogan ‘Forward’ is merely an attempt to skip over the last four years of failure. Ohioans were fooled badly four years ago, and we can’t afford to get fooled again.”

RENACCI RAISES OVER $600,000 IN Q3, HAS NEARLY $1 MILLION CASH ON HAND HEADING INTO OCTOBER

Good Afternoon—

Following a very successful second quarter, during which Jim Renacci outraised Betty Sutton by a huge margin, the wave of momentum behind the Renacci campaign continued into fall.  Today, the Renacci campaign announced that it bested last quarter’s figures by more than $100,000, raising over $600,000 in the third quarter.  The campaign will also report nearly $1 million cash on hand heading into the final month of the race.

In contrast, Congresswoman Sutton has proved to be an anemic fundraiser, particularly for a three-term incumbent.  Sutton’s weak fundraising to date has had a devastating impact on her struggling campaign, which has apparently lacked the resources to run a single television commercial so far, even though early voting has already begun in Ohio.  To this point, Sutton has relied exclusively on outside liberal special interest groups to run her campaign—the same type of outside spending she has continually feigned outrage over on the campaign trail.

“I remain humbled by the outpouring of support Ohioans have lent to our campaign as I’ve fought to save Medicare and to end the reckless economic policies that are crippling working families in our community.  Congresswoman Sutton is one of the most liberal politicians in America and the voters in the 16th district are making it clear that they refuse to let her far-left special interest friends in Washington buy her another term in Congress,” Renacci said today.

RENACCI RELEASES NEW TV SPOT: “FIGHTER”

Good Afternoon—

Today, Jim Renacci released his campaign’s newest ad, “Fighter”.   Last week, Democrats aired a despicable television ad suggesting that Jim Renacci doesn’t stand up for victims of cancer.  Falsely attacking a cancer survivor on the number two killer in America is a new low—even for Betty Sutton’s team.

The ad will begin running this weekend on both broadcast and cable networks across the district.

Renacci Statement on the Federal Reserve’s Latest Proposed Actions

Wadsworth, OH – Today, Jim Renacci released the following statement on the Federal Reserve’s announcement that it will engage in a third round bond purchasing:

“On top of the inherent risk to the health of our nation – in the form of higher inflation – that comes with the Fed’s decision to purchase a further $40 billion a month in bonds, the American people have a right to question why this action is even necessary at all. If President Obama and Betty Sutton’s big government policies had not failed so completely at fixing our economy, would a third round of so-called “quantitative easing” and the risks that come with it even be needed? The answer is a resounding no.

“Today’s announcement from the Fed is sure sign that the policies of the last three and a half years have not accomplished what we were promised. 23 million Americans remain out of work or underemployed, 368,000 Americans gave up even looking for work entirely last month, and the unemployment rate has remained over 8% for an unprecedented 43 months. These staggering statistics, combined with today’s news, paint a stark picture of why we need to move away from the tired and unsuccessful policies President Obama and Congresswoman Sutton continue to cling to.”

JIM RENACCI LAUNCHES NEW CAMPAIGN AD: “SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT”

Good Afternoon—

Today, the Renacci for Congress campaign launched its latest campaign ad, dressing down the liberal special interest groups who are poised to spend millions in a flailing and desperate attempt to keep Barack Obama’s rubber stamp, Betty Sutton, in Congress.

Two years ago, these same Washington special interests flushed millions down the toilet on false, personal attacks against Jim Renacci and his family in a failed effort to defeat Renacci and his platform of fiscal restraint and common sense conservatism.

“After marching in lock step with the failed Obama economic plan that has left 23 million Americans without fulltime work, 50 million in poverty and produced a $16 trillion national debt, it’s no surprise that Betty Sutton and her allies will literally say anything to distract voters from her horrific record in Washington.  But no amount of special interest cash can erase the fact that Betty Sutton is one of the most liberal politicians in America, nor will it stop Jim Renacci from fighting for fiscal responsibility and the common sense conservative economic policies we need to bring jobs back to America,” Renacci spokesman James Slepian said.

The ad will begin running on cable networks throughout the 16th district today.

AS THE ECONOMY CONTINUES ITS NOSEDIVE, SUTTON PLAYS HIDE AND SEEK WITH THE 16THDISTRICT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AS THE ECONOMY CONTINUES ITS NOSEDIVE, SUTTON PLAYS HIDE AND SEEK WITH THE 16THDISTRICT

Good Morning—

While our nation’s economy limps through its 43rd straight month of unemployment above 8 %, Betty Sutton continues her full sprint away from her voting record—and the voters of the 16th district.

In an effort to put an end to the debate on debates and ensure the 16th district congressional race remains focused on far more pressing issues, likes jobs and the economy, Jim Renacci repeatedly implored Congresswoman Sutton to participate in direct discussions about the fall debate schedule.   After Sutton initially ducked the request, last Friday representatives from the two campaigns finally met, but Sutton has since opted to continue her disappearing act.

To date, both campaigns have been contacted by four separate hosts, each offering to sponsor a congressional debate.  Jim Renacci has agreed to three of those debates: the Wooster Chamber debate in Wayne County, the Cleveland City Club debate in Cuyahoga County and the Canton Repository debate in Stark County.  Unfortunately, Betty Sutton has agreed only to participate in the Cleveland City Club debate.

After refusing the Canton Repository debate on Friday morning by citing a concern with the proposed date, hours later the campaign indicated it was reconsidering, only to decline again on Monday citing its refusal to participate in any debate moderated by a media outlet that would later endorse a candidate in the race.  Given that the Cleveland City Club debate will be moderated by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, which will also endorse in the race, Sutton’s latest move has now been exposed for what it is—a dishonest dodge.

“Right now, 23 million Americans can’t find a full-time job, 50 million are living in poverty and we are $16 trillion in debt—it’s time for Congresswoman Sutton to face the voters and explain her radically liberal voting record and continued support for policies that are crippling our economy and middle class families,” Renacci campaign spokesman James Slepian said.

DEVASTATING AUGUST JOBS REPORT SHOWS OBAMA-SUTTON ECONOMY REMAINS TOXIC FOR JOBS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 7, 2012

DEVASTATING AUGUST JOBS REPORT SHOWS OBAMA-SUTTON ECONOMY REMAINS TOXIC FOR JOBS

Wadsworth, OH – Jim Renacci released the following statement after the Labor Department announced that only 96,000 jobs were added in August, far below what economists expected.  The report also reduced the previously reported June and July growth estimates by over 40,000 jobs.  The unemployment rate dipped to 8.1%, not due to job growth, but due to a further reduction in the size of America’s workforce.

“August’s dismal jobs report marks the 43rd consecutive month the official unemployment rate has remained above 8%, adding to a streak that will already go down in the history books as the longest period of high unemployment since the Great Depression. While President Obama celebrates his party’s nomination to run for a second term as president – and Congresswoman Sutton simply runs away from both him and her own shameful record – Ohioans are left to deal with a stagnant economy and a decreased standard of living brought on by their failed, far-left economic policies.

“One thing is certain, Northeast Ohio has a clear choice this November: continue down the same dead-end path of continued economic mismanagement that has left us at the edge of the fiscal cliff, or choose a new course based on fiscal responsibility, a stronger economy and a smaller federal government.”

RENACCI CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES TO NEW TV AD

Wadsworth, OHToday, the Renacci for Congress campaign unveiled its first broadcast television ad of the 2012 campaign.  The ad is focused on the local devastation and job loss brought on by the failed Obama-Sutton economic policies.  With one of the most liberal voting records in America, Congresswoman Sutton has been a rubber stamp for President Obama's agenda on everything from government bailouts to massive new debt, ObamaCare and Cap and Trade.  The passage of toxic economic policies and the constant pursuit of new ones has crippled the economy and paralyzed job creators and families with fear.

Today, over 20 million Americans are out of work or underemployed and nearly 50 million are living in poverty.  This ad tells the story of one of the many business in the 16th district that was forced to shut its doors and lay off its employees as a direct result of the disastrous Obama-Sutton economic experiment.

The ad, which can be seen here, will begin airing across the district tomorrow.

Today, Jim Renacci sent the following letter to Congresswoman Betty Sutton, regarding congressional debates in the 16th district:

Congresswoman Sutton:

Over the course of the past several months, I've made clear my intent to ensure this race remains one of substance and free from the baseless personal attacks that have plagued so many other campaigns in recent years. Voters across the district, along with numerous local media outlets, have also voiced their strong desire to see a congressional campaign in this district limited strictly to matters of policy.  At a time when our economy remains in tatters and millions continue to struggle to make ends meet, the need to provide voters with the a campaign focused on the issues and challenges Americans face each day has never been more clear.

As part of my commitment to deliver the type of campaign voters are demanding and deserve, several weeks ago I agreed to participate in a debate series consisting of a debate hosted by the City Club in Cleveland, and another by the Wooster Chamber of Commerce in Wayne County.  While I strongly believe that the 16th district congressional debates ought to take place within the district itself, I agreed to participate in the City Club debate due to its proximity to the district's largest media market.  They Wooster Chamber debate was also a logical choice given that it has become a fixture of the district in recent years, hosting widely attended and well respected non-partisan congressional debates in 2008 and 2010.  My predecessor, Democratic Congressman John Boccieri, participated in that debate in back-to-back elections, which has come to play an important role for voters in the district.  I was both surprised and disappointed to learn that you had declined to participate in this debate and I join the voters in hoping you will reconsider.

Having said that, what's most important is that we put the needs of the district before politics and that we come to a speedy resolution on the apparent stalemate over debates.  Therefore I am requesting that either you join me in the coming days in a face-to-face meeting to work out an agreement, or our campaign managers do so.  While we may disagree strongly over the best course for our nation's future, I am confident we can come to an agreement on a matter of this nature that is satisfactory to us both.   Please let me know if you agree to this meeting and we can then work out the details.

Best Regards,

Jim Renacci

WHERE'S BETTY?
 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 23, 2012

WHERE’S BETTY?

Wadsworth, OH—The search party continues for Betty Sutton, who has ducked town halls and dodged debates since announcing her candidacy for Congress in the 16th district last year.  Possessing one of the most liberal voting records in America and a long history of loyal support for Barack Obama’s failed economic plan, it’s easy to understand why Congresswoman Sutton is as terrified of her record as the voters are.

After voting to waste $800 billion in taxpayer funds on Barack Obama’s failed “stimulus” plan, serving as a key House architect of the Cap and Trade national energy tax and helping Nancy Pelosi force ObamaCare down America’s throat, Betty Sutton has a record to run from—and that’s precisely what she’s doing.

Weeks ago, Jim Renacci agreed to take part in the 16th district Congressional debate hosted by the Wooster Chamber of Commerce.  The debate has become a fixture in the 16th district, with Democrat John Boccieri facing off against his Republican opponents there in 2008 and 2010.  The Wooster Chamber of Commerce is a non-partisan, local organization that is entirely independent from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.   Although both campaigns engaged in detailed debate negotiations with the debate host, to date the Sutton campaign has refused to participate.  Although disappointing, her decision to dodge this debate was not surprising given her refusal earlier this summer to participate in a joint 16th district town hall with Jim Renacci.

“With a voting record to the left of Nancy Pelosi’s and her lockstep loyalty to Barack Obama’s economic policies, we can understand why Betty Sutton is running from her record.  But how can Betty Sutton represent this district in Washington if she won’t even face the voters in Wooster?” Renacci campaign spokesman James Slepian said.

Although both campaigns have agreed to participate in the Cleveland City Club later this fall, which will be held in the heart of the district’s largest media market, the event itself is outside the borders of the district.   To date, the only debate within the district that both campaigns have seriously considered and discussed is the Wooster Chamber debate.  Jim Renacci will be there, where will Betty Sutton be?

SUTTON REFUSES TO DEBATE RENACCI IN OHIO’S 16TH DISTRICT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUTTON REFUSES TO DEBATE RENACCI IN OHIO’S 16TH DISTRICT

Wadsworth, OH—Weeks after Jim Renacci agreed to participate in a debate series with Betty Sutton and months after he proposed they host a joint town hall meeting, Congresswoman Sutton continues to refuse to debate Renacci in the 16th district. On August 1st, Jim Renacci announced his intent to participate in a debate at the Cleveland City Club, due to its proximity to the district’s major media market, as well as the Wooster Chamber debate in Wayne County, located within the borders of the 16th district. Given that both candidates are seeking to represent the residents of the 16th district, Jim Renacci believes it’s imperative they both face the voters at a debate in the district.

In addition, on July 2nd, Renacci invited Congresswoman Sutton to join him in hosting a joint town hall to discuss health care policy in Strongsville, OH, an area Sutton has represented for years and which is now incorporated in the new 16th district. She refused to participate in that as well.

"We understand that Betty Sutton is terrified of her radically liberal voting record, we all are. But her refusal to join Jim Renacci at a debate within the 16th district has gone from ridiculous to embarrassing. If she's lost and needs directions, we'd be happy to buy her a map of the district. But one way or another Betty Sutton will have to finally face the voters at a debate in the 16th district and answer for her lockstep support for President Obama’s failed economic policies as well as her vote for ObamaCare, which ended Medicare as we know it,” Renacci spokesman James Slepian said.

Renacci and Sutton will both appear at the Jefferson Action Forum on October 6th, but the event is not a debate and the candidates will participate at different times. The forum is not located within the 16th district.

RENACCI STATEMENT ON PAUL RYAN’S SELECTION AS REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENACCI STATEMENT ON PAUL RYAN’S SELECTION AS REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE

Wadsworth, OH – Today, Jim Renacci released the following statement in reaction to Mitt Romney’s selection of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his running mate.

“During the past four years, Barack Obama and his friends in Congress have dragged our nation through an economic nightmare defined by trillions in new debt, crippling unemployment and a reckless health care experiment that will devastate everyone from seniors to small businesses. Unlike Barack Obama and Betty Sutton, Governor Romney and Paul Ryan understand we cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity.  They have the experience we need to restore fiscal sanity to our government, get our economy moving in the right direction again and put America back on top. Governor Romney’s outstanding selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate reaffirms his commitment to economic strength, fiscal responsibility and offers America a clear alternative to the fatigue and failure that have consumed our country during Barack Obama’s disastrous presidency.”

RENACCI: OUR MILITARY DESERVES BETTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 8, 2012

RENACCI: OUR MILITARY DESERVES BETTER

Wadsworth, OH – Today, Jim Renacci released the following statement in reaction to Obama for America’s decision to challenge as unconstitutional Ohio’s policy to extend in-person voting for members of the military and their families:

“It is absurd and insulting that the President’s re-election campaign would challenge Ohio’s decision to extend three extra days of early, in-person voting to members of the military and their families. Not only is this decision well within the rights of the state of Ohio, it is also a completely valid policy. Members of our military get deployed to war zones, uprooted from their families and early voting accommodates the unique demands their service to our nation places on them. They should be afforded every opportunity to exercise what is every American’s most important civic duty.

“I join 15 military organizations in voicing my outrage at this clearly political attempt to silence the brave men and women who protect us every day. Ohioans expect more than petty gamesmanship from their leaders, and that is exactly what they should get from the Commander-in-Chief of all people.”

The 15 Military groups challenging the Obama campaign’s lawsuit on early voting are:

National Guard Association of the United States

Association of the U.S. Army

Association of the U.S. Navy

Marine Corps League

Military Officers Association of America

Reserve Officers Association

National Association for Uniformed Services

Non Commissioned Officers Association of the USA

Army Reserve Association

Fleet Reserve Association

Special Forces Association

U.S. Army Ranger Association, Inc.

AMVETS

National Defense Committee

Military Order of the World Wars

RENACCI STATEMENT ON JULY UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 3, 2012

RENACCI STATEMENT ON JULY UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT

“July brought us yet another jobs report which paints a troubling picture of exactly what a stagnant economy looks like. America has now faced 42 straight months of unemployment above eight percent. Combined with the 1.5 percent growth we saw in the second quarter, today’s report shows we remain stuck in the weakest so-called economic recovery in American history.

“One can’t blame Ohioans for wondering when President Obama and Betty Sutton, one of his most staunch allies in Congress, will finally admit that their favorite policy prescriptions of higher taxes, more spending and greater levels of red tape have not only failed to fix our economy, they are actually prolonging the pain. Instead of attacking the private sector, the big-government crowd in Washington simply needs to get out of the way.”

RENACCI AGREES TO DEBATE SERIES WITH SUTTON IN WOOSTER & CLEVELAND
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENACCI AGREES TO DEBATE SERIES WITH SUTTON IN WOOSTER & CLEVELAND

Wadsworth, Ohio - Today, Jim Renacci announced that he has agreed to a debate series against Betty Sutton, consisting of one debate hosted by the Wooster Chamber of Commerce in Wayne County, and a debate hosted by the City Club in Cleveland.  The event hosts have been in contact with both campaigns in recent weeks in an effort to finalize debate details.  The date for each event has not yet been determined.
“Considering that my opponent is a staunch supporter of President Obama’s policies and one of the most liberal politicians in the country, this debate series affords voters an important opportunity to compare my commitment to common sense conservatism with Betty Sutton’s commitment to continuing the Obama-Pelosi big government agenda. This Wooster component of the debate series ensures that one of the two debates is held within the borders of the 16th district, while the Cleveland City Club debate offers proximity to the district’s largest media market.   I look forward to a serious and substantive debate on the major issues facing our community—including jobs, the economy and our debt crisis,” Jim Renacci said today.

RENACCI DISAPPOINTED WITH ANEMIC SECOND QUARTER GDP
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENACCI DISSAPOINTED WITH ANEMIC SECOND QUARTER GDP

Stimulus is not delivering economic growth

Wadsworth, Ohio - “When the Obama Administration, Betty Sutton and their allies in Washington passed the stimulus in 2009, they projected growth this year would be 4.3 percent. Today’s GDP numbers from the Commerce Department show 1.5 percent growth in the second quarter, painting a far bleaker picture of our economy. Over the last year, the economy has only grown at an average of 1.9 percent and the unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent for an unprecedented 41 months.

“With anemic growth like this it is no surprise many in Ohio feel like we are in a recession. What should also be apparent to Ohioans is that the supporters of big-government, top-down policies for our economic woes are simply in over their heads. Their ideas have failed and Ohio families and businesses are paying a steep price as a result. If Washington wants to help our economy, it need only get out of the way.”

RENACCI RAISES OVER $200,000 IN FIRST HALF OF JULY ALONE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENACCI RAISES OVER $200,000 IN FIRST HALF OF JULY ALONE

Wadsworth, OH—Following a stellar fundraising period in the second quarter of 2012, during which Jim Renacci outraised three-term incumbent Betty Sutton by a stunning margin, the growing wave of momentum and support behind Renacci’s re-election campaign has continued into the third quarter. In the first half of July alone, Renacci raised over $200,000, adding to his already significant fundraising lead in the race for Ohio’s 16th congressional district.   Earlier this week, Betty Sutton’s campaign showed serious signs of trouble, posting anemic second quarter fundraising numbers and deep decline in donor support from the previous quarter.

The surging support for Renacci’s campaign comes despite a series of highly publicized, false personal attacks by Betty Sutton and her allies, intended to distract from Sutton’s liberal voting record by demonizing Renacci and his family.   While Renacci has loudly echoed voters’ sentiments by demanding the race be centered exclusively around the two candidates’ policy positions and votes they’ve cast in Congress, his political opponents have opted for slime over substance in an unsuccessful attempt to weaken his re-election effort.

“Despite the sideshow of sick attempts to intimidate and demonize my family and me in recent weeks, it’s clear that voters have grown tired of the empty politics of personal distortion and are desperate for substance-based campaigns centered around solutions to fix our broken economy. And this growing wave of support for our campaign proves it.  At a time when our crippled economy sits on life support and countless families across our region continue to struggle, residents of the 16th district deserve a campaign driven by their needs, not the needs of Washington’s political class. If my opponent is as proud of her voting record as I am of mine, it’s time for her and her allies to climb out of the gutter and join me in giving voters the type of campaign they clearly want and deserve,” Jim Renacci said today.

RENACCI OUTRAISES SUTTON BY MASSIVE MARGIN IN Q2

Renacci raises over $500,000 versus $290,000 for Sutton

Wadsworth, OH—Today, the Renacci for Congress campaign committee announced that it raised more than $500,000 in the second quarter of 2012, far surpassing Sutton’s $290,000 during the same period.  Sutton also spent nearly 60 percent of what she raised in the quarter as Renacci widened his cash-on-hand lead to $650,000.  The Renacci campaign reported $1.54 million cash on hand, compared to $903,000 for Sutton.  A vast majority of the contributions to Renacci were from individual donors.

Second quarter fundraising totals in an election year are widely considered to be the most crucial of any reporting period because they serve as a bellwether of campaign’s strength and momentum leading into the final months of the race.   Jim Renacci’s second quarter totals were his campaign’s strongest for the entire election cycle.  In contrast, Betty Sutton’s campaign stumbled badly in the pivotal quarter, raising $100,000 less than it brought in during the previous period.

“The voters in the 16th district have a clear choice this November between two very different candidates, and I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming show of support for our campaign and for my commitment to common sense conservatism, fiscal responsibility and an end to this administration’s failed economic policies.  In an attempt to hide from her liberal voting record and loyal support for the Obama agenda, Betty Sutton and her allies have signaled they intend to run a substance-free campaign defined by gutter politics and pathetic personal attacks on my family and me.   While elections are decided by people and not by money, I am encouraged that we will have the resources to fight back by running an effective, issues-based campaign that highlights the differences in the votes we cast and the impact they have on our economy,” Jim Renacci said today.

RENACCI STATEMENT ON VOTE TO REPEAL OBAMACARE

Wadsworth, OH—Today, Rep. Jim Renacci released the following statement on his vote for the full repeal of ObamaCare.  The repeal vote passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support.

“I was proud to stand with a majority of the 16th district today in supporting the repeal of ObamaCare—a law that is driving up the cost of health insurance, will force millions of Americans from their health plans and is choking progress toward economic recovery.

“Before the law was passed, its supporters promised it would cut costs, but instead they’ve gone up.  They promised it wasn’t a tax, but the Supreme Court verified that it is.  They promised that no one would be forced from their health plans, but millions of Americans will.  America needs health care reforms that increase access to care by driving down costs, and this law clearly isn’t the answer.”

The Obama-Sutton Economic Experiment Has Failed
RENACCI STATEMENT ON DISMAL JUNE JOBS NUMBERS

The Obama-Sutton Economic Experiment Has Failed

Wadsworth, OH—This morning, Rep. Jim Renacci released the following statement in response to news that America’s unemployment rate has remained unchanged at 8.2 percent.

“Like most Americans, I am deeply troubled by this morning’s news that America’s economy has remained paralyzed by President Obama’s failed policies, which have left tens of millions of Americans without fulltime work. For 41 straight months, our nation’s official unemployment rate has sat above a shockingly high 8 percent. And when you factor the historic decrease in the size of our labor force and all those who have simply given up looking for a job, the numbers are even worse.   The Obama-Sutton economic experiment of higher taxes, massive government and trillions in new debt are crippling this country, and the people of Ohio can’t afford it anymore.

“We cannot tax, regulate or borrow our way to economic recovery. Starving the private sector job creators with endless threats of higher taxes and more red tape, while Washington gorges itself on trillions in borrowed money is formula for failure—but sadly it’s a formula that Betty Sutton and Barack Obama are addicted to. This is not about politics, it’s about people, families and jobs. For the last 18 months I’ve remained committed to implementing common sense, pro-growth policies that give private sector small businesses the certainty and predictability they need to begin hiring again. However, without a willing partner in the White House or Harry Reid’s Senate, those policies remain stuck in Washington while millions of Americans struggle to survive in districts all across the country. After four years of failure and fatigue, it’s past time that President Obama and his allies in Congress put people over partisanship, abandon these broken policies, and work with those of us who want nothing more than to get Americans back.”

RENACCI INVITES SUTTON TO CO-HOST JOINT TOWN HALL ON HEALTH CARE LAW AND INDIVIDUAL MANDATE TAX
RENACCI INVITES SUTTON TO CO-HOST JOINT TOWN HALL ON
HEALTH CARE LAW AND INDIVIDUAL MANDATE TAX

Wadsworth, OH—In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s revelation last week that President Obama’s 2010 health care law was in fact a massive tax on the American people, U.S. Representative Jim Renacci sent Congresswoman Betty Sutton a formal request to hold a joint town hall to discuss the law and address the new swell of concerns among northeast Ohio residents over the legislation.

“The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the health care law under Congress’ power to tax will have broad and sweeping implications for the people and businesses that call the 16th District home,” said Rep. Renacci. “Understandably, northeast Ohioans are concerned about the implications this ruling will have on their families and their livelihoods. I believe this new tax will have a devastating effect on our economy, our health care system and middle class families. By contrast, Congresswoman Sutton remains a staunch proponent of the policies, regulations and taxes President Obama’s health care law contains. The citizens of the 16th District deserve to have an open and honest conversation with the two individuals who seek to represent them in our nation’s capital. That is why I am calling on Congresswoman Sutton to host a live town hall meeting with me to address this important issue.”

Rep. Renacci provided Congresswoman Sutton with a list of five possible dates and times when the town hall meeting could occur, and pledged to work with her to secure a time for the event that is agreeable to both parties. In addition, Rep. Renacci has arranged for a location in Strongsville – currently in Congresswoman Sutton’s district – where the event could take place.

Renacci: The Court got it wrong, Congress must get it right!

RENACCI: THE COURT GOT IT WRONG, CONGRESS MUST GET IT RIGHT

Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Representative Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement after the Supreme Court announced its decision to leave the President’s health care law intact:

“I stand with millions of Americans and a clear majority of 16th District residents in voicing my disappointment in today’s ruling by the Supreme Court, which upheld President Obama’s health care overhaul. The Obama-Sutton health care law is not only driving up premiums on struggling families, but will also force millions of Americans from their health care plans and put unelected Washington bureaucrats between patients and their doctors.   While the Court has determined that the law complies with the constitution, that doesn’t mean it complies with common sense.   I remain committed to the full repeal of this law and replacing it with common sense reforms that will drive down costs and preserve a high quality of care for all Americans.”

A staunch opponent of the President’s health care law, Jim Renacci has proposed a wide range of reforms targeted at driving down costs and increasing access to quality care for all Americans. Among the cost-based proposals he has supported are increasing competition in the marketplace by allowing for the purchase of insurance across state lines and implementing badly needed tort reform to end the costly practice of defensive medicine.   In contrast, career politician Betty Sutton is not only a vocal supporter of ObamaCare but also sought to grow the government’s role in health care even further by supporting the far-left “public option” plan.

Obama “Full Speed Ahead” After ObamaCare Decision, What Will Sutton Do?
