At a time when Americans could least afford higher health care costs, John Boccieri ignored the clear will of his constituents and cast a deciding vote to force through the Obama-Pelosi health care bill in March of 2010. After initially voting against the legislation in 2009 and acknowledging his constituents’ opposition to the bill, he bent to the wishes of Nancy Pelosi and flip-flopped on the final passage of the bill months later.

In addition to making health insurance less affordable for working families, the bill also increased taxes on the American people by $500 billion and cut Meidcare for seniors by $500 billion.

At the time Boccieri cast his vote, a poll conducted in the 16th district showed that a clear majority of voters opposed the legislation.
